The General Assembly of the Egg and Egg Products Interprofessional Organisation (Inprovo) has appointed Mari Luz de Santos as its new director, succeeding the recently retired Enrique Díaz Yubero.

With a distinguished professional background in the agri-food sector and extensive experience in leading sectoral interprofessional organisations, De Santos will bring her broad strategic vision and management capabilities to coordinate the planning and comprehensive design of the various projects to be developed by the organisation, as well as her proven expertise in the workings of Spanish Interprofessional Organisations.

To date, Mari Luz de Santos served for over seven years as Director General of Intercun, the Interprofessional Organisation for the promotion of the rabbit meat sector. During that period, she led, promoted and developed the sector’s transition towards the new food safety, animal welfare, sustainability and quality standards introduced by the European Union.

A native of Segovia, she holds a degree in Agricultural Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Madrid, specialising in Agri-food Industries. She also completed two advanced modules in “Environment Management Systems” and “Soil Pollution” at the Professional University of Agriculture and the Environment in Leeuwarden (Netherlands).

Throughout her extensive career in the agricultural and livestock sectors, she has managed high-level budgets; served as sector spokesperson; held responsibility for Scientific Committees, internationalisation and liaison with the retail distribution sector; acted as representative and liaison with public authorities on public affairs matters for the sectors; and coordinated various European campaigns and innovation projects.

With her appointment, Mari Luz de Santos takes on the leadership of Inprovo at a pivotal moment for the Spanish poultry sector, whose future is focused on practices centred on animal welfare and sustainability, with the increased adoption of alternative housing systems being one of the most prominent trends. The medium-to-long-term objective is to establish the egg as a key contributor to human health.

I approach this new chapter with enthusiasm and a keen desire to gain a deeper understanding of the egg sector. Over the years, Inprovo has achieved very significant milestones in the areas of transparency, best practices, regulatory development and implementation, as well as in improving the sector’s image. I hope to apply all my experience and knowledge to build on the excellent work already done, and to continue reinforcing our commitment to animal welfare and health, both of which are closely linked to environmental, social, economic and territorial sustainability“, declared Mari Luz de Santos, director of Inprovo.

She will work alongside Ester Muñoz and Dolors Callís, President and Vice-President of INPROVO, respectively, both in post since May 2023.
