Hevo Group incorporates Avícola Larrabe

Its production will exceed 80 million dozens of eggs per year

Hevo Group, which brings together Dagu, Ous Roig and Granja Agas, has incorporated the Basque company Avícola Larrabe, which will enable it to increase its production volume, exceeding 80 million dozens of eggs per year.

This transaction reinforces Hevo Group’s position in the laying poultry sector, with a workforce of nearly 500 people and a flock of 3.8 million hens, supplying the majority of Spain’s large retail distribution clients.

For its part, egg producer Avícola Larrabe was founded in the 1960s in the town of Gamiz-Fika (Vizcaya) by the Larrabe family. Today, the second family generation, the Larrabe siblings, leads the project.

The accumulated experience of more than 50 years of activity across all the companies that make up Hevo Group is complemented by full supply chain integration, covering everything from raw material selection, feed manufacturing, fresh egg production, grading and packing, through to transport and distribution to points of sale. The group also operates an egg products manufacturing plant.

Since Cleon Capital’s entry into the share capital, the company has completed four acquisitions, refurbished its facilities and increased its market share, enabling it to triple its sales.

Six million investment

Furthermore, Hevo Group announced in August 2024 that it will carry out investments worth more than six million euros for production improvements and to reinforce its commitment to animal welfare.

Hevo Group’s farms are designed to be hen-friendly and hold the Welfair Animal Welfare certificate.

“We work day in, day out to be present across all geographical areas of the Iberian Peninsula, guaranteeing the highest standards of quality, sustainability and animal welfare. The incorporation of Avícola Larrabe allows us to take a further step towards our goal of consolidating safe and responsible egg production,” stated a Hevo Group spokesperson.

Hevo Group was founded in May 2023 as a result of the merger of Dagu, Ous Roig and Granja Agas

Second largest producer in the laying poultry industry in Spain

Dagu, Ous Roig and Granja Agas joined forces in May 2023 to form Hevo Group, becoming the second largest producer in the laying poultry industry in Spain. The group is 90% owned by the investment vehicle Master Gallus, whose main investors are family offices from both Spain and other European countries, advised by Cleon Capital.

With a combined production of 70 million dozens of eggs across the three companies prior to their merger and a joint turnover of more than 131 million euros in 2022, Hevo Group was established with the objective of leading the transformation of the laying poultry sector in Spain by developing new production models.

The new group, whose Managing Director is Agustí Roig, has a strong presence in the retail sector as a supplier to the leading distribution chains. In May 2023 it had a workforce of 450 employees and 20 farms located in Guadalajara, Cuenca and Tarragona, of which 15 are laying farms and five are rearing farms.

Hevo Group also operates three grading and packing centres, an egg products factory, three feed mills and an in-house laboratory, enabling full integration of the egg value chain, from the purchase of cereals for feed manufacturing through to grading and final sale.

Furthermore, Hevo Group is the third largest producer of alternative eggs in Spain, with a production of 24 million dozens of eggs from alternative housing systems in 2022, including barn, free-range and organic eggs. The group aims to achieve 50% of its total production from cage-free systems during 2024.

Hevo Group was established as a consolidation project bringing together the three companies, although Dagu, Ous Roig and Granja Agas will continue to operate under their own commercial brands in the sector.

The origins of Hevo Group date back to 2021, when Grupo Dagu and Ous Roig announced their merger. Shortly afterwards, the acquisition of poultry company Granja Agas took place, with the aim of becoming the leading national egg producer, both in terms of scale and retail and distribution presence, reaching 3.5 million laying hens and doubling its turnover compared to 2018.

In May 2023, the company took a further step with the creation of Hevo Group, a new corporate identity that underscores its commitment to developing production models that respect animals and the environment, meeting the highest standards of quality and food biosecurity.
