China exports broilers of Chinese genetics to Saudi Arabia

China exports Guangming-2 broilers, of entirely Chinese genetics, to Saudi Arabia

China recently shipped, in August 2025, the first batch of its Guangming 2 white-feathered broilers to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, marking a new step in the expansion of high-quality, independently developed poultry breeds into the Middle Eastern market.

Developed by the Institute of Animal Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, in collaboration with domestic agricultural companies, the Guangming 2 is one of the first nationally approved white-feathered broiler breeds in China. According to CAAS (Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences), its productive performance rivals that of leading international breeds.

This variety incorporates advanced technologies, such as the Jingxin 1 breeding chip for genomic selection and intelligent phenotyping, doubling the rate of genetic progress. It also shows a 35.2% lower incidence of muscle abnormalities compared to international lines, they added.

Zhao Guiping, chief scientist of the breeding team, stated that the international expansion of the Guangming 2 offers a Chinese solution for the global agricultural supply chain. Chinese breeds are expected to reach a broader market in the Middle East and worldwide, contributing to a diversified global food system, she noted.

This export also reflects a growing agricultural cooperation between both countries, beyond the existing collaboration in breeding technologies and demonstration farms.

Prior to entering the Saudi market, the Guangming 2 had already been exported to countries such as Pakistan and Tajikistan.
