I had the honour of meeting international consultant Osler Desouzart at the XLIV Scientific Symposium on Poultry Science organised by WPSA-AECA, held in Valencia. With an impressive curriculum, I remember above all his wisdom, but most of all I remember his great humility and his global perspective on poultry farming. A true master.

OSLER DESOUZART
BIOGRAPHY
Osler Desouzart, a heavyweight name in meat market consultancy at the global level, has earned a place of honour through his vast experience and a strategic vision that transcends borders. His career, spanning more than 38 countries, establishes him as an indispensable expert for understanding the dynamics and trends of the sector.
With roots in the gaucho region and a melting pot of cultural influences, Desouzart describes himself as a “gaucho” citizen of the world. This identity is reflected in his command of multiple languages: French and Portuguese as mother tongues, along with fluent Spanish, English and Italian. This linguistic ability not only facilitates his international work, but also reflects his openness to and understanding of diverse cultures and markets.
His academic background is as diverse as his professional experience. Holding a Law degree from the State University of Rio de Janeiro, he complemented his studies with a Marketing qualification from the Escuela de Alta Dirección y Administración in Madrid, Spain. He also specialised in Export and Import Management at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro and in Global Quality Management at the Fundação Dom Cabral. This solid academic foundation provides him with a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and opportunities in international trade.
Osler Desouzart’s career has focused, to a large extent, on the international marketing of meat production. He worked for Brazilian industry giants such as Sadia and Perdigão, heading their foreign trade departments. His involvement was crucial in the development of Brazilian meat exports, helping to consolidate the country’s position as a key player in the global market. He also participated in various professional associations, including the Brazilian Association of Chicken Exporters (ABEF) and the Brazilian Pork Industry Association (ABIPECS).
In 2004, Desouzart took the bold step of founding OD Consulting, his own consultancy specialising in planning, strategy and future trends in meat markets. Since then, he has advised clients in more than 37 countries, cementing his reputation as a leading authority in the field. His approach is grounded in practical principles, which he summarises with a revealing metaphor: “slaughtering bulls and killing crocodiles”. This expression illustrates his view that companies must anticipate problems and address them at the root, rather than simply reacting to crises.
His philosophy centres on value creation and adaptation to consumer demands. He emphasises the importance of collaboration and teamwork in overcoming market challenges, promoting a strategic approach and an innovative mindset.
Osler Desouzart is not only a renowned consultant, but also a tireless communicator and educator. He has delivered courses and lectures at various academic institutions, including the Portuguese Catholic University, the Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, and the Spanish Association of Poultry Science (AECA). His participation in national and international congresses has established him as an authoritative voice in the sector.

His market vision focuses on the growth of the agricultural sector in developing countries and the importance of water as a strategic resource for meat production. He warns of the need to adapt to change, create value and collaborate to ensure the sustainability and success of poultry companies.
Osler Desouzart is a visionary leader who has dedicated his life to understanding and transforming the meat industry. His experience, knowledge and passion make him an indispensable reference for those seeking to thrive in an increasingly complex and challenging global market.
