Construction will begin at the end of 2025
The new project by Huevos Guillén, to be located in the town of Ribera del Fresno (Badajoz), falls within the company’s strategic plan, through which it aims to reach 10 million birds by 2030. It also represents an important step in the company’s commitment to cage-free production, and more specifically, to free-range hens with permanent outdoor access. This is driven by a growing market demand for eggs produced in alternative systems, particularly free-range eggs, all spurred by a heightened social awareness of animal welfare and environmental sustainability.
Free-range eggs have experienced significant demand in recent times. They are produced on farms where hens move freely and have permanent access to outdoor ranges. Each hen has 4 square metres of space, where it can peck at vegetation, scratch the ground and dust-bathe to care for its plumage.
Specifically, the new facility in Ribera del Fresno, operating under the trading name Dehesa de Monfragüe (part of Grupo Huevos Guillén), will reach a total capacity of 320,000 birds once operating at full capacity, distributed across 8 laying houses, with a total investment of €14.5 million. The facility will be completed progressively, with full commissioning expected in the first quarter of 2027.
Its proximity to Guillén’s facilities in Almendralejo will enable synergies with the existing centre for the final grading and packing of eggs before they reach the end consumer.
