- The Spanish Confederation of Compound Animal Feed Manufacturers held its General Assembly on 18 June 2025, at which it presented its publication “Mercados Estadística”.
- The animal feed industry manages to maintain its production level in 2024
- Feed production in Spain has grown slightly compared to a 0.34% decline in the EU
- Poultry feed production has increased significantly in Spain.
Spain’s industrial production of compound animal feeds last year reached 28,955,000 MT, a figure slightly higher than that of 2023, when 28,605,761 MT of compound feeds were produced in Spain.
This is one of the figures revealed by the publication “Mercados Estadística” published by the Spanish Confederation of Compound Animal Feed Manufacturers (CESFAC), which was presented during the Confederation’s most recent General Assembly.
The outlook for 2025 is positive, with industrial production of 29,084,000 MT of compound feeds forecast. “We are observing a slight decline in ruminant feed production, mainly due to the decrease in the sheep flock and diseases affecting cattle. In pig feed we are recording a slight recovery, and the sector where we see the most notable increase in production is poultry.

This is a trend we also observe at European level, albeit with one caveat: while feed production is falling in the rest of the European countries, in Spain we have a slight increase and we are consolidating our position as EU leaders,” declared CESFAC President Fernando Antúnez.

Spain remains the largest European feed producer
Indeed, Spain continues to be the leading European producer of industrial compound feeds, ahead of Germany, which produced 20,788,000 MT in 2024, and France (17,451,000 MT).
In general terms, an approximate decline of 0.34% in European production is estimated for 2024. By autonomous community, Catalonia is the leading feed producer, with more than 7 million MT, followed by Aragón and Castilla y León, both producing around 4 million MT.

Data presented at the Assembly
The key figures from the “Mercados Estadística” publication were presented during CESFAC’s most recent General Assembly, held in Madrid, where a review was made of the current situation facing the compound animal feed manufacturing sector. During the public part of the Assembly, a presentation was given on the current geopolitical landscape and the outlook for the Spanish economy by Miguel Cardoso Lecourtois, Chief Economist for Spain and Portugal at BBVA.
This was followed by the ceremony for the award of Medals of Merit in Animal Nutrition. The CESFAC Assembly was closed by the Director General of Livestock Production and Agricultural Markets at the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Elena Busutil, who highlighted the importance of the animal feed sector in Spain and reviewed the main challenges it must face, such as those related to tariffs and the European Deforestation Regulation, among others.
