Nearly 500 people ran in Madrid for sustainable European poultry meat

On Saturday 13 October, Madrid Río was the setting for the first edition of the “10K Madrid runs for sustainable European poultry meat” race, an event organised by AVIANZA and co-funded by the European Commission.

The race, which brought together nearly 500 runners, aimed to promote responsible consumption of European poultry meat and encourage a healthy lifestyle.

Strong turnout at the inaugural edition

Although registrations exceeded 700, around 500 participants eventually took to the start line of the 10-kilometre race, among them journalist Iván Del Dedo, industrial supplies editor at C de Comunicación, who finished in 13th place overall.

In the men’s category, Gabriel Muñoz Paez claimed first place, followed by Samuel Brown Araujo and Pedro Manuel Moya Robles. In the women’s category, the winners were Mariana Cantero García-Moncó, Mar Gadea and Aida Moyano Baruque, who all demonstrated an impressive level of competition.

The event also included an untimed 3.5-kilometre family walk, in which around 200 people took part. The day unfolded in a festive atmosphere, with a route combining sport, nature and entertainment at the Casa de Campo, one of Madrid’s green lungs.

Culinary offerings and prizes for runners

After the race, participants were able to enjoy a wide range of food and drink at the marquees set up in the area, where poultry products were served, including skewers, charcuterie, breaded chicken and chicken broth, accompanied by soft drinks.

The winners in both categories received cash prizes, with €100 for first place, €75 for second and €50 for third. In addition, €100 worth of sports equipment was drawn among all participants.
