The house had been heated and was fully prepared to receive the chicks within a few hours, so there were no losses as the hatchery redirected the chicks to other farms.
Units from the Benavente fire station, supported by personnel and resources from the Norte Station — part of the Fire Service Consortium and based in Rionegro del Puente — extinguished a fire in the early hours of this morning at a poultry house of 2,000 square metres used for broiler rearing in Coomonte de la Vega, in the province of Zamora, in the autonomous community of Castile and León, Spain.
The facility was empty, as the arrival of day-old chicks at the house had not been scheduled until today. The Castile and León Emergency Centre 112 alerted the Benavente fire station yesterday at 21:56 (23 April 2025), and a crew from Benavente was dispatched to the scene, subsequently requesting backup from the Rionegro del Puente station, which deployed a tanker appliance.
The fire broke out for reasons that remain unknown and affected feeders and drinkers, as well as one of the house doors and the cladding of the building at specific points. The intervention by crews from the Provincial Consortium Fire Service continued until 02:00 in the early hours of the morning.
