The animal and human nutrition and health multinational dsm-firmenich announced on 2 June 2025 the successful completion of the sale of its stake in the Feed Enzymes Alliance to its partner Novonesis, the global leader in biosolutions, for €1.5 billion. The sale agreement was announced on 11 February 2025. dsm-firmenich received approximately €1.4 billion in net cash proceeds after transaction costs.
dsm-firmenich refocuses its portfolio
From dsm-firmenich’s perspective, the sale of its stake in the Alliance forms part of its strategy to redefine its portfolio.
According to the press release published by DSM on 11 February 2025, the feed enzymes business formed part of its Animal Nutrition & Health (AN&H) business unit, which is to be separated from the Group to operate under new ownership — a plan that was announced in February 2024. Dimitri de Vreeze, CEO of dsm-firmenich, confirmed that they are “on track with the fine-tuning of our portfolio” and that they will begin the process of exploring transaction options to exit the Animal Nutrition & Health business during 2025.
dsm-firmenich is a Swiss company listed on Euronext Amsterdam, with operations in nearly 60 countries, revenues of over €12 billion, and a global workforce of almost 30,000 employees.
Despite the sale, dsm-firmenich and Novonesis will maintain a long-term commercial relationship. Novonesis will continue to supply enzymes to dsm-firmenich for its premix business, which will allow dsm-firmenich to continue reselling feed enzymes through its network of poultry nutrition solutions and animal nutrition.
