A tool is created for the poultry sector to calculate real production costs

The Conselleria de Acció Climàtica, Alimentació i Agenda Rural of the Generalitat de Catalunya has made available a tool for the poultry sector to calculate real production costs, as reported by Europa Press on 10 July.

The aim of the initiative, which has been developed jointly with the trade union Unió de Pagesos and the Federació Avícola Catalana, is to enable the sector to sell above cost price and comply with the Food Chain Law.

The Director General of Agri-food Businesses, Quality and Gastronomy, Joan Gòdia, has explained that it is a very intuitive and user-friendly tool that incorporates a “consensual methodology” developed with the sector’s organisations.

Optimising profits.  He explained that the initiative aims to achieve “a more equitable distribution throughout the supply chain” and to give the sector greater bargaining power when negotiating prices and optimising profits.

The measure falls within the framework of the Catalan Food Strategy and aims to create a fairer, more equitable and cohesive food system among all stakeholders.

A more cross-cutting tool.  The tool has been developed over the course of one year and draws inspiration from the one developed by the Generalitat for the dairy cattle sector on the Gestió Telemàtica Ramadera (GTR) platform.

In this regard, the Conselleria continues to work on developing a more cross-cutting tool for the entire sector.
