Animal Welfare Course for broiler farmers organised by ASAV

The Valencian Poultry Association (ASAV), in collaboration with CECAV and the Generalitat Valenciana, has organised a key course on “Animal Welfare in Poultry Farms”. This training, accredited by the Conselleria de Agricultura, Agua, Ganadería y Pesca (course code 2010/CBA/0001), is designed to meet the regulatory and professional requirements of the sector.

The course will be delivered in face-to-face format at the CECAV premises (C/ Nules 16, les Alqueries, Castellón) on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons during the last two weeks of November 2025.


A course tailored to the reality of the broiler sector

This 20-hour training programme is specifically aimed at farm owners and personnel responsible for the care and management of birds on broiler production farms.

The main objectives are clear:

  • To fulfil the training requirements set out in Royal Decree 692/2010 (protection of broiler chickens) and Royal Decree 637/2021 (regulations governing poultry farm management).
  • To understand and reinforce theoretical and practical concepts, as well as current legislation on animal welfare.

Detailed programme and expert speakers

The course is structured over four afternoon sessions (15:00–20:00 h), with comprehensive content delivered by veterinarians and technical experts from organisations including CECAV, Productos Florida, DOLZ-Grupo Vall Companys and Pentabiol.

The programme is divided as follows:

  • Tuesday 18 November:
    • Introduction and animal welfare legislation (Verónica Cortés).
    • Water and feed requirements (Dámaso Trilles).
    • Anatomy, physiology and behaviour of poultry (Diana Mateo).
  • Thursday 20 November:
    • The concept of animal welfare and stress (Óscar Marín).
    • Farm record-keeping and health documentation (Lucía Rausell).
    • Health legislation (Lucía Rausell).
    • Emergency care (slaughter and culling) (Lucía Rausell).
  • Tuesday 25 November:
    • Housing, equipment and environmental parameter control (Lucía Rausell).
    • Animal welfare, quality and food safety (Santiago Bellés).
    • Preventive biosecurity measures (Pablo Catalá).
  • Thursday 27 November:
    • Practical aspects of broiler management (Jesús Díaz).
    • Catching and transport to slaughter practices (Jesús Díaz).
    • Competency assessment (20:00–21:00 h).

Practical information and Accreditation

To complete the course and obtain the official competency certificate, participants must attend at least 80% of the scheduled teaching hours and successfully pass the corresponding assessments, including the final competency test.
