The French Government establishes specific retroactive aid for laying poultry farmers affected by the 2022-2023 avian influenza outbreak
This scheme aims to cover 50% of gross margin losses due to extended biosecurity downtime periods and to compensate 90% of losses related to egg destruction or reduced egg value for laying hen producers located in zones affected by the 2022-2023 avian influenza outbreak.
As part of the biosecurity measures deployed to combat the highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) epizootic that occurred in France in 2022-2023, a ban on poultry movements and the introduction of poultry into regulated zones was established. In early 2024, the so-called “Amont” scheme already compensated poultry farmers for a portion of the economic losses linked to this avian influenza episode.

In addition to this scheme, and given the unique characteristics of laying hen producers, the French Government has decided to retroactively compensate, in May 2025, part of the economic losses related to the prolonged cessation of production and the reduced utilisation or destruction of eggs during restriction periods. Laying hen producers located in the regulated zones (protection or surveillance zones) established to combat the 2022-2023 avian influenza epizootic and who have suffered economic losses may submit an aid application from 13 May to 27 June 2025.
This aid, decided upon by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty and funded by the State, compensates for losses related to the cessation of production on farms due to bans on the establishment and movement of laying hens and restrictions on egg movement. The scheme aims to cover 50% of gross margin losses due to extended downtime periods and to compensate 90% of losses related to egg destruction or reduced egg value.
