Spain Boosts Poultry Meat Exports to Saudi Arabia

THE GOVERNMENT AND AVIANZA STRENGTHEN POULTRY MEAT TRADE IN SAUDI ARABIA

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and the Spanish Interprofessional Association for Poultry Meat (Avianza) participated in a trade mission in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, from 12 to 14 November 2024. This initiative forms part of the Alimentos de España promotion strategy and the poultry interprofessional organisation, which are joining forces to support the internationalisation of the Spanish agri-food sector.

The mission responds to the growing interest in Spanish poultry products in the Saudi market and involves representatives from Avianza, who are accompanying the companies Coren, Oblanca, Urgasa and Vall Companys — all members of the interprofessional organisation and selected through an internal call for applications.

Over the three days, the mission followed an agenda of meetings and field visits focused on identifying collaboration opportunities with local importers and distributors, gaining insight into Saudi consumer preferences, and exploring possibilities for adapting products to the demands of this market.

Saudi Arabia has become a strategic market for Spanish poultry meat, driven by the growing demand for high-quality food products. Avianza studies confirm that Saudi consumer interest in Spanish poultry products has grown considerably in recent years, reflecting the sector’s expansion potential in this country.

This trade mission in Riyadh forms part of the agreement between the Ministry and Avianza for the 2024–2025 period, the objective of which is to strengthen the competitiveness of the Spanish agri-food sector at an international level.

Among the most notable activities, bilateral meetings were held between the Spanish companies and key players in the Saudi market, with the aim of exploring potential import and distribution agreements for Spanish poultry meat. Visits to supermarkets and large retail outlets in Riyadh were also scheduled to gain first-hand knowledge of the local commercial environment and consumer habits.

These activities will enable the participating companies to better understand the needs of the Saudi consumer and explore opportunities to adapt their products to the demands of this market.
