OVUM 2024, regarded as the most important event in Latin American poultry production, was held from 12 to 15 November at the Punta del Este Convention Centre, Uruguay. It brought together more than 3,000 participants, 200 companies and 50 speakers, establishing itself as a key meeting point for the leading players in the poultry sector across the Americas and worldwide. The event was organised by the Latin American Poultry Association (ALA) in collaboration with local trade bodies APAS and CUPRA.
The opening ceremony took place on 12 November, attended by local authorities and industry representatives. Over the following days, more than 50 conferences were delivered by internationally recognised specialists, covering topics such as animal health, nutrition, management and business aspects of poultry production.

The trade exhibition, held concurrently with the conferences, featured the participation of around 200 international companies showcasing their innovations and technological solutions for the poultry sector. Among the leading sponsors, prominent industry names stood out, including Ceva, Cobb, Plasson and Trouw Nutrition in the platinum category, and Aviagen, CMI, DSM-Firmenich, Hubbard and Phibro in the diamond category.

Worthy of special mention is the fact that on the second day of conferences, 15 November, OVUM 2024 received a special visit from the President of Uruguay, Luis Lacalle Pou. The head of state arrived accompanied by the Minister of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries, Fernando Mattos, and was welcomed by ALA President Joaquín Fernández. The President highlighted the growth of the local poultry industry, driven by the commitment and collaboration of all the companies involved — while still competing with one another — and predicted an even greater period of growth ahead, underpinned by the opening of new markets. He also expressed his gratitude to all international visitors and underscored the importance of events such as this for learning from best practices carried out around the world to improve the quality of poultry production.
OVUM 2024 not only facilitated the exchange of technical and scientific knowledge, but also promoted networking opportunities and the strengthening of commercial relationships among key players in the global poultry industry. The choice of Uruguay as the host country for the first time in the congress’s history highlighted the growth and relevance of the poultry industry both in the country and across the region.
