If conditions remain as they are, the Fira del Gall would be held as it has been in recent years, with the birds housed inside the exhibition pavilion.
The Fira del Gall de Vilafranca will take place on the weekend of 20 and 21 December 2025 at the Parc de Sant Julià. The event will go ahead, but the presence of live poultry will be subject to the avian influenza situation and the regulations in force at that time.

On Tuesday, 18 November 2025, the press conference was held to launch the 361st edition of the Fira del Gall de Vilafranca, which will take place on the weekend of 20 and 21 December at the Parc de Sant Julià.
The Councillor for Tourism, Gemma Romeu, made it clear that the Fira del Gall “will go ahead no matter what”, but will need to adapt to the situation in the poultry sector, which has been affected by the impact of avian influenza. Despite the uncertainty caused by the current health situation, the organisation is in ongoing contact with the Generalitat and is preparing for two scenarios: holding the event with or without live poultry, depending on the regulations in force at the time.
The Gall del Penedès with PGI status
The undisputed centrepiece of the Fair is the Gall del Penedès. The President of the Protected Geographical Indication, Enric Ferré, highlighted the value of this native Penedès breed as “a gastronomic product of outstanding quality and the importance of the Fair as a showcase.”
Ferré also called for efforts to reduce the product’s seasonality. Regarding avian influenza, the PGI President explained that controls must be implemented every year in this regard. The four breeders of Gall del Penedès will bring 150 dressed and cooked cockerels along with approximately 300 cut portions ready for cooking. Each breeder expects to sell between 50 and 60 birds for slaughter.

Gastronomic showcase and DO Penedès wines
The Gastronomic Showcase will bring together five restaurants from the region, offering dishes prepared with Gall del Penedès: Cantina Viladellops, El Cigró d’Or, Fonda Neus, La Cucanya, and Masia La Torre del Gall – Cal Soler. Advance tickets are already available online, and visitors who wish to do so will also be able to take dishes home from the Gastrobotiga area. Oriol Llavina, head chef of El Cigró d’Or restaurant, explained that around 8,000 portions will be offered for sale and highlighted the exceptional quality of Gall del Penedès meat.
Meanwhile, DO Penedès has emphasised the “perfect pairing” between the region’s wines and poultry cuisine, with a diverse selection available at the Gastronomic Showcase itself or at the Celler Penedès. There will be 45 references from around twenty wineries.
