As part of the forthcoming edition of FIGAN 2025, to be held from 25 to 28 March at Feria de Zaragoza, the Spanish Confederation of Compound Animal Feed Manufacturers (CESFAC), in collaboration with NEWFEED, the CESFAC Foundation and the Animal Feed Interprofessional Organisation (INTERAL), is organising a prominent technical conference entitled: “New Raw Materials in Animal Feed”.

This professional event will take place on Wednesday 26 March in the morning, and will focus on advances and prospects regarding the use of alternative and sustainable ingredients in feed manufacturing, in line with the circular economy principles shaping the future of the sector.
The conference will pay particular attention to the European NEWFEED project, whose central focus is the development of sustainable feeds from food industry by-products. The aim is to demonstrate, through research, practical workshops and training activities, that producing animal feed with a lower environmental impact is not only viable, but also economically profitable for the entire value chain.

The conference will take place on Wednesday 26 March. The provisional programme is as follows:
- 10:30 – 10:55: Registration of attendees
- 11:00 – 11:45: Potential of agri-food by-products in animal feed
- Speaker: David San Martin (AZTI)
- 11:45 – 12:15: NEWFEED project demonstration workshop
- Speakers: Bruno Iñarra (AZTI) and Aser Garcia (NEIKER)
- 12:15 – 13:30: Insect meal: opportunities and challenges
- Raúl Reyes (CEO of Insectius)
- Ignacio Gavilán (CEO of Insect Biotech)
- Sabas de Diego (Technical Director of Tebrio)
- 13:30 – 14:00: Round table and open debate with industry experts
- Moderator: Ana Hurtado, Technical Director of CESFAC
- 14:00: Closing
This conference is part of FIGAN 2025’s ambition to become a platform for knowledge-sharing and debate on the current and future challenges of animal production. The incorporation of innovative raw materials, such as insects and agri-food by-products, reflects the sector’s commitment to sustainability, food safety and production efficiency.
