These figures reflect total consumption, including the agri-food industry, foodservice and household consumption. Meat consumption figures are presented in carcass weight equivalent, including non-edible parts of the animal.
Milk production
France is the second largest cow’s milk producer in Europe, with 23 billion litres produced. It also holds 51 Protected Designations of Origin (PDO) for dairy products.
Poultry sector
The French poultry industry is noted for its diversity, with 345 Label Rouge certifications in poultry and egg production.
Economic importance of the agri-food industries
French agri-food industries involved in meat processing and preservation account for 10% of agri-food companies. Exports of meat and offal reach €4.3 billion, while those of milk and dairy products amount to €4.7 billion.
