The poultry fair of El Prat de Llobregat, centred on the Prat Breed, the blue-footed chicken, will be held on the weekend of 28, 29 and 30 November 2025 at the Granja de la Ricarda. The event, which is normally subject to the restrictions in force due to avian influenza and lumpy skin disease, has received a special exemption from the Generalitat to display and sell live animals. The members of the judging panel — which included the former director of the Real Escuela de Avicultura, José Antonio Castelló, and the President of the Prat Breed Breeders’ Association, Valentina Guisado — selected the finest specimens on Friday 28.
The mayor, Alba Bou, stated that the fair “will not be overshadowed” thanks to the preventive measures and health checks carried out in recent weeks, which have returned negative results in the participating animals.

The fair, now in its 52nd edition, introduces new features such as a Cookery Workshop and a Tasting Workshop, where live demonstrations will be held featuring recipes with Prat artichoke and blue-footed chicken. This year it also carries the Biosphere certification, which recognises best practices in sustainable management.
“The blue-footed chicken, a symbol of local gastronomy, establishes itself as the star of an edition committed to sustainability and culinary innovation.”
The price of chickens at this edition is €23.50 per unit and €34.50 per capon, approximately 50 cents more expensive than last year. The preventive measures for avian influenza, in force since 13 November, prohibit free-range poultry keeping in order to prevent transmission, particularly from migratory birds arriving from northern Europe.
The blue-footed chicken, a native breed from El Prat, is reared under regulated conditions, in housing with a stocking density not exceeding eight birds per square metre and on a natural diet comprising at least 65% cereals. Its meat, recognised for its tender texture and rich flavour, holds Protected Geographical Indication status.
